ALBERT LIGHTS UP JEREZ: FRONT ROW HEROICS FOR ITALJET GRESINI

The Spanish sun wasn’t the only thing blazing at Jerez today, Albert Arenas delivered a sensational qualifying performance to land a front-row start, igniting the spirits of the Italjet Gresini Moto2 team and the home crowd alike.

Meanwhile, Darryn Binder kept things exciting both on and off track, arriving with a brand new look and plenty of determination ahead of race day.

ALBERT ARENAS #75 – PUMPED AND READY

“It was a difficult start to the season: the speed was always there, but I’m happy to finally be able to capitalise. We kept believing and this is the confirmation that we’re part of the game. The points are awarded tomorrow, however: I’ll do my best, I want to have fun, battle, overtake and aim at the podium, which would be even a more special one here at my home track.”

Albert has been knocking on the door all year, and today at Jerez, he kicked it wide open. Clocking an electric 1’39.890s lap in Q2, he locked down second place on the grid, missing pole by just a fraction.

For Albert, a home race podium would be the ultimate reward for the fans who have roared him on all weekend, and he’s looking sharp, confident, and hungry for more.

DARRYN BINDER #15 – FRESH CUT, FRESH SPEED
“We made some positive steps forward today: I managed to improve my lap-time quite a bit in the beginning of Q1. Unfortunately in my last run I was coming on a good lap, with maybe the possibility to improve a little bit more and pass to Q2, then unfortunately in the last corner I asked a little bit too much to the front and ended up going down. Disappointed that I never made it through the Q2, but at the same time I’m happy with the progress we’re making: I feel I’m ready for the race tomorrow, let’s keep our head down and try to make our way into the points.”

Darryn took his search for extra speed seriously this weekend, so seriously, in fact, that he chopped off his trademark long hair before arriving at Jerez.

Was it a tactical decision? Was it a new sponsorship deal with a barber shop? We may never know

With a few grams less on his head and a few tenths found on the stopwatch, Darryn showed real progress in Q1 before a small crash ended his session. No matter, Binder’s got the spirit, the pace, and now the low-drag haircut to charge for the points on Sunday.
